Did a D- 37 GP race this past wekend down in Taft. Beau Baron showed up as well as Robbie Cockrell and a few Pro dirt bikers from WORCS. In total around 460 entries and 37 quads I think. The course was about 8.5 miles long and we (well they) raced for 45 minutes.
My race took a turn for the worse literally. I got off to a horrible start as shown in one of the pics, but made a few quick passes and found myself 3rd in class. Then second following a guy on a predator around the MX portion of the course and into the offroad section. We caught and passed 4-5 intermediate or expert riders and pulled a decent gap on our class (novice). Apparently the guy on the predator decided he didn't like me pushing the pace so he let me by. I then began to pull a fairly large gap and caught a few other racers from the classes that started in front of me. Then near the end of the first lap coming down a steep hill, I came around a blind corner only to find a three quad pile up. There was nowhere for me to go and I couldnt stop. I then got hit from behind and my quad was now stuck in the middle of the pile.
I watched the race pass me by as we tried to get everyone unstuck from the mess. Between problems with my quad and being more hurt than I realized I decided not to continue after about halfway into my second lap. I'm extremely disappointed but it could have been worse.
I will be back and plan to race more of the Big 6 GP series. I thought it was a great course and well run and organized event. Lots of friendly and helpful people. I hope to make it to Glen Helen.
